It was finally that time of year again, when fashion fanatics and obsessed celebrities swarmed for New York fashion week. Every year, the city leaves us breathless with looks influencers and designers are loving and new trends they set. From fashion shows to general street style around the city, we have seen the boldest and most extravagant looks. We know that both of these styles are just as important as each other. So, of course we’ve been chasing down some of the best looks to give you much awaited inspiration. Whether you are fashion crazy or just curious to see the outfits, in this article, we reveal all. Bold colours, dress suits and denim sequences were some of the themes on offer from week one of fashion month. Here are a few of our favourites and some more eye catching and stylish looks straight from the chic city.
New York Fashion Week – Straight off the runway
The runways were a force to be reckoned with over the week with looks ahead of 2017’s spring collections. We saw new themes emerging and one was the modern style of dress suits by DKNY. Last year and during the past few months, menswear became a notable trend for women. Corduroy trousers and plaid jackets seemed to infatuate designers around the world. For their spring collections however, a skirt suit was the alternative for designers like DKNY who heavily featured them. They are well aware it is easier to pull this look off during warmer months. It is also a wearable outfit with less hassle and easy to accessorise.
This look would of course attract attention, especially if you have a figure like supermodel Bella Hadid, who wore it so effortlessly on the runway. She and other models beautifully displayed this and other smart outfits using navy blue and black colour schemes. The simplicity and sophistication of this look is what we love. The piece possesses the smart aspect needed for a suit, but doesn’t lose the edgy and sexy disposition of a dress. Other designers at New York Fashion week opted for long wide sleeves on dresses and interesting fabrics. The colour combinations used by the designers were not frequently in contrast to those seen earlier on in the year. Interestingly, their collections relied less on the usual colours associated with spring and more on the themes they wanted to portray in the show.
New York Fashion Week – Celebrity Style
Models, designers and bloggers weren’t the only ones with the spotlight on them during fashion week. As usual there was a cluster of celebrities eager to catch a glimpse of the styles displayed on the runways this year. New York Fashion week is another opportunity for celebrities to be creative and diverse with their styles. Remember when the entire Kardashian/Jenner family turned up at Kanye’s show with oversized faux fur and puffer jackets? Well this year, one thing remained clear, subtle did not exist in the dictionaries of some fashion enthusiasts.
Kylie Jenner, other than showing up with bright blonde hair, stunned in a range of outfits including sparkling mini dresses. Her all white ensemble in particular, with a statement long patterned jacket turned heads while she was out in Manhattan.
Nowadays, we expect nothing less than fashion perfection from Alexa Chung. She knows what works for her, and how to draw attention regardless of what she wears. Backstage at the Noon by Noor fashion show, Alexa’s casual street style reminds us why simple is so stylish.
Simple was not the desired theme for this celebrity though – we love to see the style evolution of Chloe Grace Moretz. This eye catching dress she wore at the Cartier Fifth Grand Reopening event is the perfect blend of sophisticated and edgy. And the blue eyeliner is something different we rarely see the actress wear.
New York Fashion Week – Street Style
Recreating the looks seen on the streets of New York during fashion week is actually simpler than you think. One of the reasons we love New York is the accepting nature it has. Anything goes, so there couldn’t be a better place to explore different prints, colours and themes.
Here are some looks to kick start your creativity. This first outfit resembles the Blake Lively, Upper East Side chick everyone wants to have lunch with. The combination of a short skirt and smart top is effortless for spring collections. The weather is perfect for it, and it isn’t restrictive. If you want to wear this look during the autumn and winter months simply throw in a pair of tights, thickness to your liking. And now you have a multi-seasonal outfit.
On the streets of New York, the colours and patterns were varied… lots of different styles and themes were on show. The beloved and perhaps oldest one in the book has to be the black and white ensemble. A New York City wardrobe is incomplete without an outfit that involves at least one of the two hues. If you’re looking for an outfit that presents the perfect opportunity to rock it, look no further. This printed white top from Antipodium and black skirt from Fête Impériale are a match made in heaven. Tuck the shirt in or leaving it hanging; the colours and patterns just work together. A grey tote bag and some black sunglasses are neutral touches you can add to this look also. Keep it simple with the jewellery because this outfit is enough to make an impression on the streets even without much bling.

ESTABLSIHED – CIRO ASH SUNGLASSES PRICE: £134.00
MELI MELO – TAUPE THELA BAG WITH DETACHABLE CLUTCH PRICE: £510.00
This second New York Fashion Week inspired outfit puts a street style twist on a runway trend: printed jumpsuits and dresses. This trend by no means surprised us. It dominated fall and winter collections earlier in the year and we had expectations of this continuing through the spring. This jumpsuit by Sans is the perfect floral printed addition for your wardrobe if you’re looking for one. Shoes with a single strap around the ankle also made a lasting impression on the streets. Whether you choose to keep it simple with a pair of heeled sandals or these Kili heels, nothing distracts from the jumpsuit. Sunglasses of course are a necessity for strutting the streets during fashion month. The general motif of the sunglasses worn during fashion week included big frames and dark lenses.
SANS – TROPICAL PRINT JUMPSUIT PRICE: THEN £285.00 NOW £228.00

Finally, here’s the outfit you’ve been looking for to let out your inner diva. We mentioned bold colours and prints as one of the popular trends on the streets during the past week. If you want to create a bold look use the brightest in the book. Nothing says confident and daring like radiant yellow. Though it may be a colour you perhaps would avoid selecting from your wardrobe, this look below provides a way of subtly incorporating it into your outfit. Emile Vidal Carr’s Ellis coat offers an option similar to the kinds we saw in New York and paired with some blue cigar trousers makes for an effortlessly chic look. These trousers are not the brightest shade of blue, but the intricate pattern and fit makes them captivating.
For a bold look, your accessorises really have to be distinctive so they are not overpowered by the coat. The black mini Vienna crossbody bag is a cute accessory with a pop of red colour and eye catching slogan. Finish this look off with a pair of black ankle boots and a statement fedora hat.
